Mary Anne Hobbs es la musa de las ondas británicas. Se ha convertido en una de las dinamizadoras del sonido dubstep en la sacrosanta emisora Radio 1 con su show The Breezeblock que se emite los lunes de 1.00 a 3.00 am. Mary es una chica especial que ya a los 16 años dejó la escuela para ponerse a empaquetar huevos y ganar 39 libras a la semana. Después de matar el gusanillo de la música tocando con una banda llamada Heretic, su gran ambición fue convertirse en periodista musical y sus primeros pasitos consistieron en montar su propio fanzine al que tituló Krush. Con 21 años vendió todo lo que tenía y se compró un billete para irse a Hollywood. Allí empezó a escribir sobre las bandas que despuntaba por entonces, Guns N' Roses o Jane's Addiction y allí conoce al que será su amigo de toda la vida, el escritor y editor James Brown (o confundir con el padrino del funk) que fue quien le dijo de trabajar en NME cuando Mary Anne volvió a Londres. Allí estuvo tres años hasta que se fue con James Brown a formar parte del equipo que tenía que echar a rodar Loaded magazine donde escribirá historias sobre el lado oscuro de la música, es decir, sobre detectives privados y los camellos que suministran cocaína a las estrellas musicales. Poco después le llegaría su huequito los domingos por la mañana en la BBC GLR con Mark Lamarr. Poco a poco se convertirá en la gran estrella de la emisora con sus documentales sobre David Bowie, The Sex Pistols y The Stone Roses. Actualmente se ha convertido en la gran voz del dubstep británico organizando en 2007 un showcase de la BBC Radio 1 en el Sónar con todas las figuras del género pasando por el escenario al descubierto: Skream, Kode 9 & The Spaceape y Oris Jay, entre otros.
